On the road to Escapade 2014

We left Fort Worth, Texas on Wednesday, 4/30/14, and headed to Goshen, Indiana. The first stop was in Texarkana, Texas for a stay at Shady Pines RV Park. This is a very nice place to stay and was designed by a person that understands the needs of RVers.

Our second night was spent in West Memphis, Arkansas at Tom Sawyer's RV Park. Out our back window was the Mississippi river and we watched the barge traffic going up and down the river.

Our third stop on this trip was in Whittington, Illinois at the Whittington Woods Campground. This is another very nice park with big spaces and grass and trees. The park managers have a vegetable garden and a chicken coop.

The fourth night found us at Horseshoe Lakes Thousand Trails RV Resort in Clinton, IN. We spent the weekend here resting from our travels, doing laundry and attending church in Terre Haute, Indiana. Horseshoe Lakes is the results of past coal strip mining which has left an area of many lakes.

Located next to the Thousand Trails Resort is a park that includes a race track for lawn mowers. There were some racers out Sunday afternoon practicing/testing their "mowers".

Monday we moved to Bear Cave Thousand Trails campground in Buchanan, MI. This is our last stop prior to arriving at Escapades 2014 in Goshen, IN. This resort opened for the season on 5/1 and we arrived on 5/5. The term 'opened' is used loosely. The gate is open and RVers can stay there with full hook-up. However, none of the facilities are open. It was quiet with only 8 RVers using the resort. One of the highlights of our visit here happened on our arrival. As we were setting up about 4PM another RVer walked over with a plate of warm BBQ ribs for us. They were very tasty. Sharon took him a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies a couple of days later.

On Thursday we drove to South Bend, IN for brunch at Le Peep and then visited the Studebaker Museum. John's family had a Studebaker as a family car in the '50s. Here are a few pictures from our visit.

Tomorrow, 5/10/2014, we will be moving to the fairgrounds at Goshen, Indiana for the 2014 Escapade.

  1. NICE! I've bookmarked the RV Park in Texarkana. . .seems much nicer than the one where we stayed. . .
